Aaron G. Nelson passed away Monday, December 18, 1995, in Provo.

He was born January 30, 1911, in a two-room log cabin on a dry farm near Wardboro, south of Montpelier, Idaho. His parents were Rasmus Peter Nelson and Ann Greenwood Keetch, and he was the fourth of five children.He served an LDS mission in Sweden, 1933-36, and devoted himself faithfully to church service in a wide range of branch, ward, and stake callings.

He earned a B.S. from Utah State University (1937), and an M.S. (1939) and Ph.D. (1949) from Iowa State University-all in agricultural economics. He was co-author or senior author on five editions of "Agricultural Finance", a textbook used for some 30 years, and authored or coauthored dozens of articles, studies, reports, and bulletins during a distinguished career.

He taught at South Dakota State College in Brookings from 1939-42. While there, he met and married Lucile Hauff, the love of his life, on June 18, 1941. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa LDS Temple.

From 1943-45, he worked with the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in Washington, D.C. He was director of research and education with the Farm Credit Banks of Omaha, 1945-57. He taught at the University of Arizona, 1958-78, and worked with the Economic Research Service, USDA, 1967-79.

He and Lucile moved to Provo in 1985 to be near their son and his family, who survive him: Bob and Char, and Christi, Cori, Catie, and Mark. He is also survived by his sister, Rozena Oaks. His wife preceded him in death by just over three years.

Services will be held at Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center, Provo, on Thursday, December 21, at 2 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills.
