Three men have been charged with the destruction of protected wildlife in Duchesne County after allegedly killing more elk than allowed by their permits.

Each man had one permit to hunt one bull elk when they went hunting in the Larsen Hollow area Duchesne County Oct. 11.But two of the men allegedly killed one bull elk and one cow elk each. The other man allegedly killed two bull elk. The three cow elk were left to rot, according to 3rd Circuit Court documents.

The remaining elk were transported to Salt Lake County, where they were butchered. Most of the meat has been recovered by law enforcement officials.

The court records state the men implicated themselves and each other when interviewed by law enforcement officers.
