A new, 260-acre office campus and recreation park is coming to town, bringing with it the potential for an estimated 12,000 jobs when com-plete.
The development, billed as the largest in the state, is a cooperative effort between Beneficial Development Co., West Valley City, Salt Lake County, Kennecott and the Army Corps of Engineers. Developers have named the business venture Lake Park Corporate Centre. When development is complete, Lake Park Corporate Centre, south of 2100 South and west of Bangerter Highway (4000 West), will house up to nine Fortune 500 companies on 30-acre improvement pads, said project administrator and Beneficial Development land manager Mark Staples.
Lake Park's first tenant, Chicago-based Prime Option Mastercard, a sister company of Dean Whitter-Discover & Co., already has purchased 65 acres to build its 418,000-square-foot national headquarters in the park. Prime Option was slated to make an announcement Wednesday at West Valley City Hall. That company alone is expected to employ 3,000 employees in the next five years.
In addition, a man-made lake, 27-hole Johnny Miller signature golf course, and wetlands will accent the office community. Staples noted that the campus will accommodate "any kind of service-oriented company." Non-distribution - and essentially non-polluting companies - will help protect the integrity of the project.
"This project is being developed for companies who want to grow. This is a place where a company can buy some land in a very well-designed plot," Staples said. "West Valley City residents should know this development is being done right. It is an investment in their community. We're going to make it where anyone who comes into the state and thinks about West Valley City will have a very positive image."
