Eldon James Bailey, age 69, died Saturday, February 11, 1995, of complications from a pre-existing condition while snowmobiling in West Yellowstone.

Eldon was born May 5, 1925 in Lehi, Utah. He received his basic education in Lehi and American Fork and received a degree from Utah State University and an advanced degree from University of Utah. He proudly served his country in the "Silent Service" in World War II aboard the submarine, "U.S.S. Trepang" in the Pacific and remained an active member of the Submarine Veterans Association.He married Renee Summerhays June 22, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and was the proud father of six children and 26 grandchildren. Following graduation, Eldon lived in Lark, Utah, where he worked as an electrician in the Bingham Mines. He then moved to Orem where he worked at U.S. Steel as maintenance superintendent in the open hearth.

Following retirement from Geneva, he taught electrical automation at Utah Valley Community College where he served as department chairman. He retired from UVCC in 1992. Eldon served on the Orem City Council, 1972-74. He was active in the LDS Church, was a dedicated Scouter, and served as stake mission president.

Survivors include his sister, Ardith Bigelow, Riverside, California; six children, Craig Bailey, Salt Lake City; Sherry Ruf, Bellevue, Washington; Judy Thompson, Seattle, Washington; Allan Bailey, Alpine, Utah; Linda Luke, Lindon, Utah; Lane Bailey, Orem; and his 26 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bailey and Louise Colledge Miller, and his beloved wife, Renee Summerhays.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 15, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Vermont Ward Chapel, 400 East 400 North, Orem. Friends may call at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi, Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and at the church in Orem, Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery with military honors by the veterans.
