With stock prices at their all-time high, a seat on the New York Stock Exchange was sold for the second-highest price ever.

The Big Board said Thursday a seat on the exchange sold for $900,000, up $140,000 from the last sale on Dec. 15.That price - $215,000 shy of the record - came as the Dow Jones Industrial Average made its second consecutive closing high. The Dow industrials finished Thursday at 3,987.52, or 1.35 points above the previous high of 3,986.17 set Wednesday.

The price of doing business on the nation's largest stock exchange peaked just before the stock market crash of October 1987. The NYSE said the record price for a seat was $1.15 million in September 1987.
