Bishop George H. Niederauer, 58, of the Salt Lake Catholic Diocese, was released Thursday morning from LDS Hospital, where he has been undergoing tests for heart-related problems.

The Catholic leader, who was recently ordained and installed as bishop of the diocese, was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after experiencing pains in his arm.Earlier Thursday, Julie Anderson, spokeswoman for the diocese, said test results show the bishop had not suffered a heart attack and appeared not to have sustained any cardiac damage from what she described as a "blockage."

Following his release, the diocese released a statement quoting Bishop Niederauer, who said, "I am grateful for the prayers and good wishes of so many and for the timely and excellent medical care I received at the hospital. I have been assured that, with proper diet and exercise, my health will be even better in the future."

Anderson said Bishop Niederauer will maintain a moderate schedule for the time being.
