Southern hospitality had an exclusive meaning in Thursday's opening round of the 3A championships. Cedar City's 61-47 upset of third-ranked Lehi was the first of three semifinal berths for Region 9.
Center Karl Bohman triggered Cedar with 17 points and point guard David Evans had 15 to give the fifth-ranked Redmen a solid lead midway through the second quarter. "After that when we went on a 16-2 run, we were able to get control of the game," Cedar coach Steve Hodson said.Lehi was led by Jason Allan's 14 points as the Pioneers jumped out to a 19-14 first quarter lead. "Lehi came out and shot the ball extremely well," Hodson added. "They must have started out hitting 7-of-8 before they began to fall short. That was our big break."
On the night, the Redmen stayed focused from the free throw line especially in the fourth quarter as they tallied 16-for-19.
