Glenn Robinson and Jason Kidd showed exactly why they were the first two picks in the NBA draft.
Both were instrumental in winning bursts for their teams Thursday night. Robinson, the No. 1 overall choice by Milwaukee, scored nine of his 28 points in the Bucks' late comeback for a 102-93 victory over Atlanta. Kidd's three-point play with 2:36 remaining snapped a tie and helped Dallas past Cleveland 90-84.Robinson sparked the Bucks in the final 4:26 as Milwaukee outscored the Hawks 13-3. He started the rally with a driving, two-handed slam, hit a jumper and followed by making a free throw to give the Bucks a 94-90 lead.
That was typical of Milwaukee's resilience.
"The one thing about our team has been that we're young and we're gonna have ups and downs," Bucks coach Mike Dunleavy said. "But we do bounce back."
So did the Mavericks, thanks to Kidd.
"I love to be in that situation, with the game on the line and the ball in my hands," said Kidd, who not only had to run the offense at point guard, but make up for the absences of star scorers Jamal Mashburn and Jim Jackson. "We were missing 50 points in Jimmy and Jamal, sure, but we've overcome obstacles before."
Kidd has increased his scoring in the three games since Jackson's ankle injury, averaging 17.3 points and shooting 50 percent (18-of-36) from the field.
Bucks 102, Hawks 93
Vin Baker scored 25 points and pulled down 16 of the Bucks' 48 rebounds. Todd Day finished with 23 points.
Stacey Augmon scored 18 points in the first half and finished with 25 to lead the Hawks, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Steve Smith added 21.
Mavericks 90, Cavaliers 84
Host Dallas also got 18-point performances from Lucious Harris and Roy Tarpley and 16 points from George McCloud.
The Cavaliers tied an NBA record with only three turnovers. They played without injured Mark Price, Tyrone Hill, Gerald Wilkins and Brad Daugherty.
Magic 107, Rockets 96
Orlando won for the first time in Houston and even made a bunch of free throws down the stretch. Shooting just 67.7 percent from the free-throw line this season, the Magic went 21 of 25 in the game, making seven of their last eight.
The Magic have won four in a row and have the NBA's best mark, 44-13. Anfernee Hardaway led the Magic with 30 points, and O`Neal had 19 points and 20 rebounds against last year's NBA most valuable player, Hakeem Olajuwon, who finished with 22 points.
Hornets 109, Trail Blazers 99
At Portland, Alonzo Mourning scored 27 points, 11 in a key third-quarter run, and Hersey Hawkins added 26. Larry Johnson scored 21 points before being ejected on a second technical foul for objecting to an out-of-bounds play with 38 seconds left in the third period.
Knicks 93, Bulls 89
Visiting Chicago blew a 22-point lead in the second half. Anthony Mason scored 15 of his season-high 26 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead basket with 21 seconds left.
SuperSonics 116, Clippers 88
At Anaheim, Calif., Shawn Kemp and Sarunas Marciulionis each scored 21 points as Seattle completed a five-game season sweep of the Clippers.
