Patrons who owe overdue fines at the Provo City Library can enjoy "the Luck of the Irish" next week, March 6-11, with the library's annual Food for Fines campaign.
The Food for Fines program allows patrons to exchange one can of food for $1 worth of overdue charges. The food collected will be donated to the Utah County Food and Shelter Coalition. The coalition cannot accept home-canned items, or anything in glass bottles. But they can use all other types of canned goods, particularly any kind of food that could provide a complete meal for a homeless person, such as soups, chili or stew.
Library patrons may exchange Food for Fines in all library departments, including the Parent Education Resource Center. Food will be delivered to the coalition by the Provo LDS Bonneville 3rd Ward Scouts.
