The Utah Symphony is expected to make a decision next week on the fate of its nine-week summer season.

An announcement is to be made at 6 p.m. Monday following meetings of the 14-member executive committee and full symphony board.According to board chairman Ken Knight, options available to the financially troubled orchestra include "playing the full summer, playing a partial summer or playing no summer at all." He said he had no way of knowing which was likeliest, but that in order to proceed with the summer "we would have to have a pretty good anticipation of a balanced budget, and we don't have that right now."

The organization faces a projected deficit of close to $400,000 if the full summer season takes place. If it is canceled, Knight said, "we would basically break even" and continue plans for the regular 1995-96 subscription season.

Thursday, symphony officials met with local business leaders to apprise them of the situation. A similar meeting was held Sunday in Park City.

The board held open the option of canceling the 1995 summer season when it announced in August that it would be going ahead with its current 1994-95 subscription series.
