The American Association of Retired Persons is recruiting volunteer instructors and coordinators for the "55 Alive Mature Driving" program. The mature driving course emphasizes safety instruction and procedures for older drivers.
The 55 Alive instructors lead vehicle safety discussions for the eight-hour course using slides, manual and program guide developed by AARP. The two-day course is held in various community locations. Coordinators administrate geographic areas, provide support to instructors and coordinate classes, recruitment and advertising.Lee Jensen, state coordinator for 55 Alive, says this volunteer opportunity is ideal for retired Utah Highway Patrol, police or Division of Motor Vehicles personnel. Those 50 or older with an interest in people and safety issues are encouraged to volunteer. Call Jensen in Salt Lake City at 467-8686.
AARP is the nation's leading organization for persons 50 and older with some 148,800 members in Utah. Ken Creer, Springville, serves as state director.
