Despite trailing after each of the first three events, the Utah women's gymnastics team excelled on its final event to claim a 195.175-194.375 victory against host Oregon State. Minnesota came in third at 189.475, while San Jose State finished a distant fourth with a 180.775.
Trailing by one-tenth of a point, the No. 1-ranked Utes scored an impressive 49.20 on the balance beam to clinch the meet."On a night where we were pretty flat on three events, we were spectacular on the balance beam," said Ute coach Greg Marsden, who was concerned about trailing going into the final event. "While I saw things that need to be improved upon, I couldn't be more proud of how our athletes handled the situation."
Suzanne Metz won the all-around competition with a score of 39.350.
