Howard Walter Brown, age 83, passed away Thursday, March 2, 1995 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Born July 11, 1911 in Lindon, Utah, the son of Walter Cheever and Maud Knight Brown. Married Zina Rae Taggart, April 7, 1934 in Tacoma, Washington. Solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June, 1935. Was a loving husband to Zina Rae for 61 years.Active member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions including High Councilman and bishop. Loved working with the youth.
Active for many years with the Twin Star Riders and Beehive State Chariot Association. Worked with youth in the 4-H Horse Program for the past several years. Director of Intermountain Quarter Horse Racing Association and Board Member of Weber Basin Water Conservancy District.
Worked for Edison Brothers Stores for 41 years where he started as a shoe salesman and rose to Regional Vice President. President of the Retail Merchants of Salt Lake City.
Survivors include his children: LaRae Brown, San Diego, California; Gerry T. Brown (Rita), St. George; Robert H. Brown (Chris), Centerville; Linda Duffin (Gardner), Centerville; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Vera Oscarson (Roy); Newel Brown (June); Garth Brown (Ada); Jay Brown (Marie); and Merril Brown (Barbara); and beloved horses, Vanna and Frosty. Preceded in death by two sisters, Elva Anderson and Bessie Thorpe.
Devoted father and grandfather to his own family and to many of the youth in Centerville. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 1995 at 12 noon in the Parrish Canyon Ward, 610 North Rowland Way, Centerville. Friends may call at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment, Centerville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
