Our angelic mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend Verna Burton Tagg passed from this mortal existence March 2, 1995 to be reunited with her beloved Jim after 21 years of separation.
Born November 21, 1902 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter Edwin and Ophelia Ruth Bawden Burton. The early years of her life were spent in Granger, Utah. She married James Francis Tagg, December 4, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were owners of Taggs' Shoe Repair where they worked side-by-side for many years until ill health forced the closure of the shop. Her previous work experience had been at ZCMI.Survivors include a son, J. Burton Tagg and wife, Annette; two daughters: Joyce Lund and husband, Gene, Frances Holfeltz and husband, Howard. Her 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren brought great joy into her life. Also survived by a sister, Donna Van Leeuwen and a brother, John Burton. Preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth and Evelyn and two brothers Howard and Sam.
Most of her life was spent in serving others. In her home she cared for her mother, a step-mother and two orphaned nephews, Heber Inkley and Morgan Hurd. Mom was happiest when working and kept a spotless home and an impeccable garden. She was very active in the church, serving as music director for children for 21 years and as a visiting teacher.
She had a vast repertory of poetry stored in her memory and took special delight in reciting it to others. Other interests included making ceramics and singing with the Singing Mothers Chorus.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 1995, 12 noon, at the Richards Ward, 855 East Garfield Avenue. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Sunday 6-8 p.m. and at the ward one hour prior to services on Monday. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. T 3/4 N 3/5
