Lionel Wayne Olsen, Sr.,died peacefully at his home March 3, 1995.

He was born May 9, 1907 in Salt Lake City to John Frederic and Inger Olsen. He married Carma Smith Olsen in 1930. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away in 1989 after 60 years of marriage. He later married Joyce Barrett.He lived and worked all his life in Utah. He worked his way up through the ranks of banking and became senior vice-president of First Security Bank. As an avid golfer he recorded a hole-in-one at Bonneville Golf Club with one arm after a hunting accident left his left arm non-functional. Golfing friends nicknamed him, "The One Arm Bandit."

Being an active member of the LDS Church he held many church positions, one of which was finance clerk for the Salt Lake LDS Valley View 8th Ward for 15 years.

As the only banker in Tooele County for many years he was a leader in civic and community affairs and served as director and president of many community organizations. He was instrumental in getting a golf course for Tooele and later presented it to the city.

He was called, "Mr. Volunteer," for his many service activities. Last year was his seventh year serving as director of the Huntsman Senior Games Golf Tournaments. He was honored and presented with a plaque by Governor Leavitt as One of the Real Heroes.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; a son, Lionel Wayne Olsen, Jr., St. George; and a daughter, Joyce Riddell Harp, Woodland Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 1995, 11 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 3371 Mulberry Drive. Friends may call Sunday, 7 to 8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd., and 9:30-10:30 a.m Monday at the chapel prior to services.

Cryptside services will be held Tuesday, March 7th, at 11 a.m., at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park & Mausoleum, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC, where friends may call Monday, 7-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services.
