Ted and Olga Berg of the Hingham Massachusetts Stake came to America from Latvia following World War II.
He began working as a landscape assistant for 75 cents an hour. Later he was employed by Proctor & Gamble and when he retired after 31 years, he continued to keep busy. He now serves on the stake high council, is a stake auditor, helps in the Primary, manages a medical building and sorts his stamp collection. He and Sister Berg have helped translate Church materials for Latvia. They also find ways to assist people in Latvia, whom, she said, are having a difficult time.
"Keep yourself active," said Sister Berg. "That keeps you young."
She enjoys designing and making draperies and clothing. She used to specialize in European desserts until her husband became diabetic. Now she reads a great deal, knits and crochets, and enjoys "keeping my mind sharp."
