David Charles Rasmussen, Sr., returned to our Heavenly Father on March 3, 1995, after a valiant battle with an extended illness. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He had a Christlike love for all he met.
David was born on August 4, 1926 in Midvale, Utah, the son of Clarence and Esther Victoria Downs Rasmussen. He served on the battleship USS West Virginia during World War II. He married his beloved companion, YVonne Noreen Fowkes on October 20, 1945. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. David treasured his activities in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities including Bishop, and loved working with the youth. He and YVonne were ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple. His family was his greatest joy and he enjoyed many activities with them, especially camping. He was a devoted husband, a tender loving father, a doting grandfather and an adoring great-grandfather.He is survived by his wife of Sandy; two sons, David Charles (Angela) of South Jordan; and Rick of Sandy; two daughters, Noreen Victoria Samowitz (Bill) of Sandy; and Sharon Mary Auger (Larry) of West Jordan; 13 grandchildren and six spouses; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Lillian Comes (Lee) of Salt Lake City, Clarene Esther Birch (Glade) of Washington, and Jeanine Miles (Wyatt) of Midvale. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday 12 noon in the Sandy 13th Ward, 586 East 8400 South. Friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 South 1700 East and Tuesday at the Ward 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
