A man recently charged with rape and attempted murder may be a suspect in last year's slaying of a Payless Shoe-Source clerk.
Prosecutors will sit down with West Jordan police detectives Monday to determine if physical evidence links the man to the death of Margaret Ann Martinez, according to an Associated Press story.Salt Lake Deputy District Attorney Kent Morgan would not confirm the man's identity Saturday but said, "We do have a strong suspect in the (Martinez) case that we will be looking at."
On Feb. 15, 1994, Martinez was found stabbed and smothered in a storage room at the shoe store, 7915 S. Redwood Road.
Police said the initials "TSG" were scrawled in blood in the store and the day's receipts were gone. Investigators also found a single fingerprint at the scene.
