Several disabled Salt Lake teens and adults will enjoy what, for some of them, will be an adventure of a lifetime this month. The Snowflakes, a Kaysville snowmobile club, will sponsor its second annual snowmobile day for Camp Kos-top-ulos patrons March 18 at Monte Cristo.
Despite severe weather conditions, last year's event was a success. Several of the club's members piloted snowmobiles with Camp Kostopulos participants riding on back. For many of the people from the camp, this was their first experience with snowmobiles. Those not riding the machines enjoyed the warmth of mobile homes, provided by several of the Snowflakes. The snowmobile club isn't the only group making this event possible. Last year, Chevron donated box lunches for those who attended the activity, and this year, Polaris has already granted $200 to pay for gas and other expenses.
Camp Kostopulos, a nonprofit agency located in Emigration Canyon, offers year-round recreation programs to physically and mentally disabled individuals of all ages. Participants in the camp's recreation adventure program enjoy a variety of other activities ranging from bowling to swimming to social events such as dances or theatrical productions. Camp Kos-topulos also operates a residential summer camp from June through August.
