Trapped by the rising waters of Trabuco Creek, three people watch a car that was washed off a road in rural Orange County, Calif. In the beachside community of La Conchita, sentries stood watch Monday above an oozing hillside that already had buried nine homes. Rain died down Monday morning, but officials said that didn't change the threat. On Sunday, 21/2 inches of rain filled a crater that the La Conchita landslide had created, threatening to push even more soil into the town about 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
