Otto Harry Otteson passed away on March 6, 1995.

He was born June 25, 1931 in Rexburg, Idaho, son of Otto Wallace and Flora Camphouse Otteson. He grew up in Rexburg, graduating from Madison High School in 1949. After high school, he served his country in the Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict.He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Central Atlantic States Mission, then returned to attend Ricks College. He married Elna Law in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, November 22, 1957. He then attended Utah State University in Logan where he earned Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Physics.

He has taught in the Physics Department at U.S.U. since 1966 except for about two years when he lived in Arco, Idaho and did research for his Doctorate Degree, and nine months when he took a sabbatical leave at M.I.T. in Cambridge Massachusetts in 1972-73.

He was presently the Assistant Physics Department Head and teaching in the Physic Department. He loved teaching and working with students. He was honored as the College of Science Teacher of the Year in 1982 and a few days ago was selected as College of Science Advisor of the Year.

A faithful Latter-day Saint, Harry served diligently in all of his callings. He was a counselor in the bishopric both at U.S.U. as a student and in Arco. He served as bishop of the Smithfield 3rd Ward and on the Smithfield Stake High Council. He was presently serving as Stake Patriarch for the Smithfield North Stake. He was a faithful home teacher and loved visiting his families.

A loving husband and father Harry is survived by his wife, Elna of Smithfield; his mother, Flora Gardner of Saint Anthony, Idaho; his children and their spouses: Paul and Joan Otteson of Kaysville; David and Theresa Otteson of Bountiful; Ann Otteson of Logan; Gwen and Chris Merrill of Layton; Sara and Allen Tidwell of North Salt Lake; and Lynn Otteson of Smithfield; seven grandchildren and his brother, Marvin Otteson of Saint Anthony, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Wallace Otteson; brother, Harvey Blaine Otteson; a baby sister; a grandchild; and his parents-in-law, whom he loved as parents, Floyd and Vera Law. He is dearly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, 1995 at 12 noon in the Smithfield 3rd Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 So., with Bishop Thomas Blanchard conducting. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 So. Main, Smithfield, Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
