An assistant professor of English at Brigham Young University will speak about gender construction in the Romantic period during a Women's Research Institute brown-bag lecture Thursday, March 16, at noon in 378 Wilkinson Center.

In her lecture, Gail Houston will examine Romantic conduct books for children, Thomas Laqueur's study of the history of anatomy and the making of "opposite sexes" at the end of the 18th century. She will also compare a poem by Felicia Hemans with one by William Wordsworth to talk about gender construction.
