Small-business owners in Box Elder, Cache, Davis, Tooele and Davis counties are eligible to apply for low-interest disaster relief loans.

The Small Business Administration said the loans are to help offset "economic losses resulting from the reduced revenues to farmers and ranchers stemming from severe drought and range fires" that occurred last August.Small, non-farming businesses - including "Main Street" businesses - and cooperatives may qualify for loans of up to $1.5 million if they had financial difficulties because of the fires and drought.

The loans are designed to help business owners meet financial obligations that would have been met if the disaster had not occurred.

The SBA said farmers and ranchers themselves are ineligible for these loans, but may receive assistance from the Farmers Home Administration.
