Nearly two dozen shots were fired at a Sunset apartment early Wednesday morning, but a woman and her two children inside the unit were unhurt, according to Sunset police.
At least five of the bullets penetrated into the apartment, two hitting only 4 feet above a bed where the children slept.Police Chief Phil Olmstead said the shots were fired into the apartment at 147 W. 2575 North from the parking lot of nearby Fremont Elementary School around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
"We've recovered 22 shell casings from the parking lot of the school," Olmstead said. Several of the bullets struck the woman's parked car and other parked cars, and some struck another residence but didn't penetrate the walls, Olm-stead said.
The bullets were from a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, Olmstead said, and the number of shells recovered indicate the suspect reloaded the pistol at least once during the shooting spree.
Olmstead said his department is looking for the woman's estranged husband, who called her earlier in the evening and told her he was leaving the state. The man is driving a black Nissan with Arkansas license plates, Olmstead said.
