Two free lectures on David Hume's ethics will be sponsored by the Brigham Young University philosophy department Thursday and Friday, March 9 and 10.
Jean E. Hampton will speak from 5 to 7 p.m. in 2044 Jesse Knight Humanities Building on both nights.Hume was an 18th-century Scottish philosopher. His theories have been very influential in modern moral philosophy because they suggest a way of thinking about morality that can be reconciled with the demands and commitments of science.
Hampton, a professor of philosophy at the University of Arizona, will introduce Hume's moral theory Thursday evening and evaluate it Friday evening.
