Tibetans and their supporters will commemorate the 36th anniversary of the 1959 uprising against the Chinese occupation in which 87,000 Tibetans were killed on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Utah State Capitol.

Local Tibetan leaders and former Salt Lake Mayor Ted Wilson will address the audience. There will also be a prayer ceremony, the reading of a message from the Dalai Lama, the singing of the Tibetan National Day song and the Tibetan national anthem and a peaceful walk from the Senate Capitol to the federal building in downtown Salt Lake City. The public is invited to attend.The organizers hope to promote awareness of the Tibetan culture and its endangered status.
