$500,000 TO FUND SERIES ON BLACKS IN MODERN DANCE

The Ford Foundation has awarded the American Dance Festival a $500,000 challenge grant to create a series of television programs on the role played by blacks in modern dance.

Historic figures in dance such as Katherine Dunham, Pearl Primus and Alvin Ailey will be featured in the 1-hour film programs, as well as contemporary artists such as Bill T. Jones.The $2.6 million series is titled "Closer to the Truth: The African Presence in Modern Dance."
