I could not believe my eyes when reading that an internal audit suggests the county Animal Services Division cease its public education, foster care and adoption programs.
Abolishing these programs will only result in more costly animal euthanasia - already an appalling 6 million-10 million animals are killed each year in this country due to public ignorance and indifference.Education is the key to reducing unwanted animals through spaying and neutering. Humans have domesticated animals and made them dependent on us. Let's not forsake them in their time of need. Education, foster care and adoption programs are not only the least we can do for our animal friends, they are our moral responsibility.
