"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

"In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." - Prov. 3:5-6.

My husband and I were called on a full-time mission early in 1989. By the middle of May we had fulfilled our Missionary Training Center requirements, and taken up our responsibilities in the mission office as secretary and financial clerk, along with proselyting on Sundays.

A short time after our arrival in the mission field, we received a letter from one of our ward members requesting our picture and favorite scripture to be put on a plaque to be presented to us upon our return. We reviewed many favorite scriptures but finally selected Proverbs 3:5-6, as it had always been very meaningful to us and sustained us through difficult circumstances.

At first we found our responsibilities overwhelming, but with the Lord's help we were blessed and had many rewarding experiences. Six months into our mission my husband had a cardiac arrest and died almost instantly. Within three days I was back home, my mission over, and my husband gone. It was a big adjustment. Once more this passage of scripture in Proverbs sustained me as I struggled to understand and adjust to life without my husband.

The Lord has directed my paths. I was able to complete my mission by serving in the Canada Calgary Mission Office as a Church Service Worker, and to also fulfill travel plans that my husband and I had planned to do together after our mission.

This scripture is a daily reminder of the Lord's love for me and that He will continue to direct my paths as I trust in Him and not on my own limited understanding.
