Dukes split series with 8-5 win over Buzz

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Wilton Guerrero had two singles and a triple Sunday to lead Albuquerque to an 8-5 win over Salt Lake, helping the Dukes earn a split of the four-game Pacific Coast League series.

Guerrero committed two errors from his shortstop position, including a boot in the sixth that sparked a four-run inning and gave the Buzz a 5-3 lead.

But Albuquerque regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, and Guerrero hit a two-run triple in the eighth to give the Dukes the final margin.

It made a winner out of Jose Garcia (1-2), the second of four Dukes pitchers. Garcia pitched 1 1-3 innings and gave up a run and three hits.

Miguel Alicea retired the Buzz in order in the ninth for his first save.

Buzz pitcher Dan Nolte (0-1) gave up the first six Dukes runs before leaving in the sixth.

Salt Lake's Ben Shelton hit a solo homer in the second to tie the game at 1. Damian Miller doubled home two runs in the sixth and came home to score his team's final run.

Puckett contemplates leaving the Twins

FORT MYERS, Fla. - If the Minnesota Twins aren't competitive this season, Kirby Puckett may not stick around for another.

"It looks like we might be liquidating," Puckett said before the team's first spring training workout. "I can get out of my contract after this year."

Puckett, a member of two World Series championship teams with the Twins, is concerned about dwindling numbers.

"I know we're rebuilding," he said Thursday. "We lost Herbie (Kent Hrbek), Winnie (Dave Winfield), Shane (Mack). We've got to do something. ... That budget thing is killing everybody."
