Local prep runners got an early and impressive start to the outdoor track and field season this weekend at the Arcadia Foot Locker Invitational.
"Utah took them by storm," said Bingham coach Jeff Arbogust.The highlight of the meet for the Utahns was Bingham's distance medley relay team's record-smashing win. The team, consisting of Lee Lorenz, Clint Edmunds, Jeff Hopkinson, and Corbin Tally, clocked the fastest time in the nation at 10:17.95 - four seconds faster than the former time of 10:22. Lorenz was clocked in 3:08 for his 1200 meter leg while Edmunds clocked 49.8 in the 400, Hopkinson 1:58 in the 800 and Talley 4:22 in the 1600.
Earlier this year, they claimed the top time in the 4 x 800 relay.
Talley also placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:05 - 10 seconds faster than the existing Utah state record.
Other local winners were Shauna Rohbock (Mountain View), who won the 100 meter hurdles; Dixon Brown (Davis), who took the title in the pole vault; and Slade Combs (East) who won the 300 meter hurdles and took third in the 110 meter hurdles.
