FTC TO LET HEALTHTRUST DIVEST HOSPITAL ASSETS

The Federal Trade Commission has approved HealthTrustInc.'s request to divest all of the assets and businesses relating to Holy Cross Hospital to a Texas health-care company.

HealthTrust, based in Nashville, must divest the assets of Holy Cross - now known as Salt Lake Regional Medical Center - to Champion Health-care Corp. in Houston. The order follows a 1994 FTC order that settled antitrust concerns that HealthTrust's acquisition of three hospitals from Holy Cross Health Services of Utah would significantly lessen competition for inpatient acute-care services in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties.

The order permitted Health-Trust to acquire Pioneer Valley Hospital, Lakeview Hospital, Jordan Valley Hospital, St. Benedict's Hospital, Salt Lake Industrial Clinic and West Jordan Clinic but required it to divest the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center's assets and businesses.
