Davis County officials hope a second large exhibit building will be available for this year's county fair in mid-August. The County Commission Monday approved a $207,000 bid to erect the building.
The bid from Brundle & Brundle Construction in West Valley City was the low one of seven opened last week. Some ranged up more than $300,000.County planner Barry Burton said he was surprised at the amounts bid on the project. He was hoping it would come in around $160,000, Burton said.
Four years ago, the county built a similar building plus a smaller but more expensive building to house restrooms, offices, and kitchen facilities for $300,000.
The difference is the increase in general construction costs of steel buildings over the past four years and the different construction climate, Burton said.
