AGNEW TO HANG IN HOUSE - HIS PORTRAIT, THAT IS

Spiro Agnew's portrait is returning to the Maryland State House, but Agnew isn't. Agnew said he received his invitation from Gov. Parris Glendening less than 24 hours before Thursday's ceremony to rehang the portrait. "I couldn't have come back east anyway," he said from his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. His portrait was removed from the governor's reception room in 1979, after he was convicted of income tax evasion and accused of taking bribes. Agnew denies taking bribes.
