Don't you think it is time to put an end to this idiotic government-imposed semiannual clock switching mania that infects the body politic here in Utah? In dutifully discharging this current unfunded mandate, I took a poll of how many clocks are currently under the supervision and jurisdiction of just my wife and me. I found that we are currently responsible, by government decree, for the semiannual resetting of 23 clocks. What a horrible waste of time and effort!
Isn't it time that we assert our citizen responsibilities and scream at our elected representatives for redress of grievance from this semiannually imposed tyranny. If there was some value to be obtained from this regular activity, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But with the current explosion of electronic technology, every electronic tool having its own clock, this seems like a ridiculous exercise in futility, and it is only going to get worse as the number of electronic gadgets in our custody continues to proliferate.
According to my recollection, this pattern of clock switching was first imposed upon us, by government decree, during the Second World War in the early 1940s. At that time there was some value to be obtained and very few clocks were available to be changed. Every family was then encouraged to plant and care for a "Victory Garden" in order that more food would be available for our brave fighting forces. By switching the clocks, more sunshine was available after regular working hours to perform this patriotic duty. But, as with most government mandates, even though the justification has long since gone away, the decreed activity must be maintained irrespective of cost.
Fifty years of involuntary servitude is enough! Please end this government-imposed oppression on our already too busy lives.
