Ruth Helen Kooyman Newsome, beloved mother, mother-in-law and grandma, left us April 12, 1995, after a very courageous battle following heart surgery.

Born February 1, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah, daughter of Cornelius and Pieternella Boland Kooyman. Married Richard Claudius Newsome, December 2, 1937; later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. She was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed the many positions she held in the church, especially her volunteer work in the Jordan River Temple.Survived by five sons and spouses, Gary and Beverly, David and Marcy, Mike and Jane, Robert and Karen, and Dennis and Sharon Newsome; two daughters, Sheila Amador and Debora Newsome; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard; son, Richard Garn; granddaughter, Patricia; mother, stepfather, Leendert Versluis, three brothers and two sisters.

We will all miss her smile and songs. She was a grand lady and a shining example to us all; the true meaning of the word Angel.

Funeral services Tuesday, 12 noon at the Jordan River 5th Ward, 1229 West 10775 South. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m., McDougal West Jordan Mortuary, 1861 West 7800 South and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, South Jordan City Cemetery.
