WHITE HOUSE MAGNOLIA BRANCHES OUT IN SEEDLINGS

The magnolia tree that withstood the crash of a small plane aimed at the White House last September is taking root again in Norris, Tenn.

Former Sen. Howard Baker Jr. arranged for horticulturists to take clippings from the famous tree planted by President Andrew Jackson in memory of his wife, Rachel, who died a month before his 1829 inauguration.Baker helped plant the results - two young seedlings - on Friday at the Museum of Appalachia, which just opened an exhibit on Baker's life and career.
