ARTIFICIAL-HEART RECIPIENT IS UPGRADED TO SERIOUS

Utah's first total artificial heart patient since Dr. Barney Clark continued to improve Tuesday.

LDS Hospital has upgraded the condition of the 56-year-old Idaho man, whose identity has not been released at the request of his family, from critical to serious.He took his first steps Monday and spent a restful Easter watching videos with his family.

The Idaho man is the first patient in Utah to be implanted with a total artificial heart as a bridge-to-transplantation since Clark's historic implant surgery in 1982.
