An emergency medical technician charged with sexually abusing patients while on duty at Alta View Hospital was picked up Thursday night by Sandy police.

David L. Sandstrom, 31, was taken into custody at his residence - a room he rents in West Valley City, Sandy detective Gordon Sadler said. Sandstrom faces sex-abuse-related charges for allegedly fondling a teenage girl after she sought treatment at the hospital for asthma, says a complaint filed in 3rd Circuit Court.He also allegedly fondled a woman he met after she was injured in a traffic accident, the charges say.

Alta View officials fired Sandstrom after learning of the charges, hospital administrator Wesley B. Thompson said.
