CAPTION ONLY: HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU, KID

Doug Nelson of Bend, Ore., tries to see eye to eye with one of his llamas. Top-notch llamas and alpacas, which are prized for their fine wool and also make good pack animals and pets, will be auctioned at the Utah State Fairpark today and Saturday during the "Spring Classic Rocky Mountain Sale." Alpacas are smaller, wooly cousins to llamas. Breeders are coming to the sale from California, Oregon, Wyoming, Idaho, Arizona and Montana. Prices vary widely. Llamas sell for about $10,000 but can go as high as $50,000 for an exceptional animal. Alpacas are even more expensive.
