GRANGER POURS IT ON WITH EIGHT IN THE EIGHTH

Kearns found out against Granger Friday that when it rains it pours.

Tied at 1-1 in the top of the eighth inning, the Lancers exploded for eight runs to knockout the Cougars 9-1 in Region 3 baseball action.Another bright spot for the Lancers on the rainy day was pitcher Brett Lindsey who gave a brilliant pitching performance. He struck out 15 Cougars, gave up just four hits and allowed only one run in going all eight innings. Mike Okerlund added three doubles for the Lancers.

Bonneville 4, Clearfield 1

At Bonneville, J.D. Spendlove went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Lakers soaked the Falcons.

Fremont 6, Roy 4

At Fremont, Jed Hancock went 4-for-4 with and RBI and three stolen bases as the Silver Wolves grabbed their first-ever home win. Brant Miles and Bryan Thompson each had two RBI for Fremont.

Region 2

Viewmont 6, Bountiful 4

At Bountiful, the Vikings improved to 3-1 in region to break a four-way tie for first. The Braves fell to 2-2.

Cottonwood 12, Davis 3

At Davis, Tyler Peterson and Boo Gates each had three hits and two RBI as the Colts pounded the Darts. Tyrone Egbert led the way from the mound with seven strikeouts.

Region 3

Taylorsville 10, Hunter 3

At Hunter, Jared Larson knocked in two runs in the sixth on a double as the third-ranked Warriors scored six runs to pull away from the Wolverines. Brandon Ballard struck out six batters and didn't give up any earned runs in five innings.

Region 4

Hillcrest 10, American Fork 2

At Hillcrest, Dan Hogelin led off with a home run as the Huskies exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning.

Mountain View 9, Brighton 6

At Mountain View, the fourth-ranked Bruins scored three in the sixth inning to pull away from the fourth-ranked Bengals.

Region 5

Bear River 6, Box Elder 2

At Box Elder, Carson Callister stole the show on both sides of the field. In the seventh, he nailed a two-run homer as the Bears scored four runs to secure the victory. He also made a diving catch in the fourth inning that saved two runs from scoring.

Sky View 1, Logan 0

At Sky View, Lance Purser pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits to lead the Bobcats.

Ogden 7, Ben Lomond 4

At Ogden, Ben Lucero struck out seven batters and gave up only five hits to lead the Tigers.

Region 7

West 14, Woods Cross 4

At Woods Cross, Chris Latta drove in a run and went 3-for-3, while Jose Prasino and Lucas Murakami each drove in two runs on two hits for the fifth-ranked Panthers.

East 4, Cyprus 2

At East, Aaron Dinkle lanced well for the Leopards with five strike outs in the win over the Pirates.

Region 9

Pine View 10, Hurricane 0

At Pine View, the top-rated Panthers made easy prey of the Tigers to remain atop their region.

Region 10

Lehi 15, Park City 1

At Park City, Curtis Jacobsen had three hits and three RBI and Mike Gray had a pair of hits and RBI to lead the third-ranked Pioneers.

Uintah 10, Wasatch 0

At Uintah, D.J. Lewis drove in two runs to lead the Utes past the Wasps in five innings.

Region 11

Carbon 14, Richfield 7

At Carbon, Dustin Scovil, Andy Maclean and Justin Zaccaria each had three hits and three RBI for the Dinos. Scott Cuff hit two homers for the Wildcats.

Region 12

Manti 19, North Summit 2

Manti 8, North Summit 2

At North Summit, the top-ranked and undefeated Templars continue to roll through the 2A ranks with a sweep of the Wolves. Bryan Kiesel and Alan Cox each picked up complete-game victories for Manti.

Gunnison 11, Grantsville 10

Gunnison 8, Grantsville 4

At Grantsville, the visiting fourth-ranked Bulldogs swept a doubleheader over the Cowboys to stay within a game of Manti for the region lead.

Juab 13, South Summit 4

Juab 12, South Summit 2

At South Summit, the fifth-ranked Wasps walloped the Wildcats behind the bats of Tyler Shepherd (4-for-4, 2 RBI) and Brett Wilkey (4-for-5, 3 RBI). Dustin Mace and Lewis Bailey also had a pair of hits and RBI for Juab.

Emery 14, Union 4

At Emery, Trent Wakefield drove in four runs on three hits as the Spartans breezed by the Cougars.

Prep softball

West Jordan 8, Kearns 1

KEARNS - Brooke Baker struck out 13 and allowed just three hits to lead West Jordan to an 8-1 Region 3 victory over Kearns Friday.

The Jaguars, who exploded for four runs in the third inning, improved to 5-1 in league play, while the Cougars dropped to 1-5.

At Bonneville, pitcher Michelle Boam earned the win by driving in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Region 7

Woods Cross 6, West 2

At Woods Cross, Natalie Pay and Jill Bearnson each drove in two runs as the Wildcats (3-4) surprised the Panthers (4-2).

Region 9

Snow Canyon 20, Pine View 1

At Pine View, one run, one hit and one error did little to help the Panthers (1-6). The visiting Warriors (7-0) countered with 12 hits, including three by Marianne Graf who drove in five runs.

Region 10

Uintah 10, Wasatch 8

At Uintah, the Utes rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held tough in the seventh to defeat the Wasps and maintain their top spot in the region.

Region 12

Manti 28, North Summit 2;

Manti 9, North Summit 2

At North Summit, the top-ranked Templars continued their string of great play with a crushing first-game victory and a solid win in the second game.

Juab 11, South Summit 1;

South Summit 21, Juab 12

At South Summit, the Wildcats fought back with a big second game to earn a split with the Wasps and improve to 2-9 on the season.

Millard 12, Morgan 1;

Millard 6, Morgan 4

At Morgan, the fourth-ranked Eagles picked up a pair of road victories Thursday over the fifth-ranked Trojans. Millard improved to 6-2 in region play with the wins, while Morgan fell to 4-3.
