SPACE CAMPS LET YOUNGSTERS BLAST OFF TO LEARNING

Current 4-Hers or those interested in joining 4-H are invited to apply for Space Camp this spring and summer.

The Christa McAuliffe Space Center in Pleasant Grove offers overnight "Star Trek" type missions beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday and finishing at 10 a.m. the next day. In addition to functioning as a starship crew, participants learn about astronomy, problem solving, fitness and computer technology.Participants must have completed the fifth grade. The cost is $30 per person, including meals.

Astro Camp in Ogden offers two- and four-day simulated Space Shuttle missions throughout the summer in a program similar to the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. It is designed for youths in fourth through eigth grades. The cost is $90 for two days or $180 for four days at the camp. The cost includes all meals and a T-shirt.

Applications for both these programs are available at all Utah State University County Extension offices.
