NEW MOUNTAIN STATES INDEX ON ECONOMIES DEBUTS MAY 1

A Creighton University professor of economics will issue the first Mountain West business conditions index May 1.

Ernie Goss will conduct a monthly survey of purchasing executives in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming to produce the leading economic indicator of the Mountain West economy. He has monitored the economies of the other two states for the past eight months as part of another index but recently was asked to add Utah to his research by the Utah Purchasing Management Association. That led him to create the new Mountain States Index, which will be funded in part by the association.

The index will measure the overall economy, prices, employment, production, new orders, export orders and confidence in the economy.

Creighton is an independent Catholic university in Omaha, Neb.
