ANOTHER WEEK FULL OF NOTABLE EFFORTS

Some of the notable performances in Utah high school sports last week:

BASEBALL

JED HANCOCK, Fremont: Had four hits, stole three bases and drove in a run to help the Silver Wolves to a 6-4 win over Roy Friday.

TYLER HENRY, Northridge: Ripped a 3-run double to lift the Knights to a 10-5 win over Layton Friday. Teammate Damien Gutierez scored three times and drove in two runs.

TYLER PETERSON, Cottonwood: Had three hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Colts defeated Davis 12-3 Friday.

ZAC SORENSON, Highland: Reached base four times and smacked two doubles in the Rams' 5-4 triumph over Skyline Friday.

BRETT LINDSAY, Granger: Recorded 15 strikeouts en route to tossing a four-hitter as the Lancers whipped Kearns 9-1 Friday. Teammate Mike Okerlund complimented the performance with three doubles.

LANCE PURSER, Sky View: Threw a three-hit shutout as Bobcats nipped Logan 1-0 Friday.

RYAN BOWERS, Pine View: Ripped two homers in Panthers' 10-0 blanking of Hurricane Friday.

CURTIS JACOBSEN, Lehi: Drove in three runs to power the Pioneers past Park City 15-1 Friday.

SHANE SMUIN, Uintah: Tossed a one-hitter in 10-0 Ute win over Wasatch Friday. Teammates D.J. Lewis and Rory Mortensen each knocked in three runs for Uintah.

SCOTT CUFF, Richfield: Two home runs weren't enough to make the difference in 14-7 loss to Carbon Friday.

BRETT WILKIE, Juab: Doubled, tripled and homered - driving in three runs in the nightcap - as the Wasps swept South Summit in a doubleheader Friday.

KEVIN CALLISTER, Manti: Drove in six runs - joining teammates Josh Jackson (five RBI) and Alan Cox (17 strikeouts and a homer) - in improving the Templars to 16-0 overall with a twinbill sweep of North Summit Friday.

CHRIS KELLY, Millard: Stole five bases in Eagles' doubleheader sweep over Morgan Thursday.

MICHAEL STRIBLEN, Grand: Drove in five runs and had three hits in 17-4 spanking of Monticello Wednesday.

SCOTT ROBINSON, Sky View: Allowed only three hits in going the distance on the mound in Bobcats' 10-1 win over Bear River Tuesday.

ZACH KOUCOS, Judge: Drove in three runs on a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate as Bulldogs bit Granite 8-3 Tuesday.

KYLE DART, Spanish Fork: Threw 10 shutout innings, allowing just three hits, as the Dons tipped Timpview 1-0 Tuesday.

TRAVIS NEIL, Lehi: Smacked a 3-run homer and had a double in Pioneers' 10-2 win over Uintah Tuesday.

CHRISTIAN WHITTIER, Morgan: Overcame the elements (rain, snow and hail) to pound a three-run homer for the Trojans in Tuesday's 8-7 win over South Summit.

MARK GODFREY, Layton: Collected eight RBI, paced by a pair of two-run doubles, as the Lancers won a 15-10 slugfest over Hunter Tuesday.

BASKETBALL

NATE CARLING, Alta: Defeated Bountiful's Brett Allen in the finals of the three-point shootout at the McDonald's high school championships last Friday.

DAN WHITE, West: Edged Brian Jones of Spanish Fork for the slam dunk crown at the recent McDonald's championships.

JILL ADAMS, Clearfield & LORI RED, Provo: named to the all-tournament team at the recent BCI nations in Phoenix. The duo led Utah to a sixth-place finish.

SOCCER

DAN LEAR, East: Recorded the shutout in goal as the Leopards surprised Olympus 1-0 Friday.

AARON COLLETT, Woods Cross: Scored twice as the Wildcats stopped West 3-0 Friday.

NIC BUTLER, Sky View: Slipped a pair of shots past the goalie in the Bobcats' 4-3 overtime win over Bear River Friday.

GREG LEMMON, Dixie: Two-goal effort lifted the Flyers past Cedar City 4-1 Friday.

PENN OWENS, Wasatch: Goalkeeper recorded a shutout as the Wasps surprised Lehi 4-0 Wednesday.

ZANE DAVIS, Hillcrest: Notched another shutout in goal as the Huskies edged American Fork 1-0 in a shootout Wednesday.

MATT BATEMAN, West Jordan: Scored both Jaguar goals in 2-0 triumph over Taylorsville Wednesday.

DEAN CARDWELL, Roy: Had two goals in Royals' 5-0 win over Northridge Wednesday.

JASON BARRUS, Layton: Connected on two goals in regulation and one in the shootout as Lancers outlasted Fremont 3-2 Wednesday.

SAM JOHNSTON, Waterford: Reached the net twice as the Wolves blanked Meridian 5-0 Wednesday.

NICK PERKINS & STEVE SAGERS, Tooele: Each scored twice as the Buffs doubled Murray 4-2 Tuesday.

CHAD KNIGHT, Sky View: Two goals were enough to lead Bobcats to a 3-2 victory over Box Elder Tuesday.

RYAN HATTERBURGER, Bear River: Scored twice in 3-1 win at Mountain Crest Tuesday.

CHARLIE GLADWELL, Ogden: One goal in regulation anmd another in overtime guided the Tigers to a 5-4 victory over Logan Tuesday.

CHRIS SEAMONS, Timpview: Proved to be a lion tamer by recording his 10th shutout in Tuesday's 2-0 triumph over Payson.

SCOTT MCCOLLUM, Wastach Academy: Had two scores in 3-2 overtime win over Wendover Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

JAMIE HAMILTON, Northridge: Tossed a two-hitter, striking out seven, in Knights' 4-3 victory over rival Layton Friday.

MICHELLE BOAM, Bonneville: Drove in the winning run and pitched a five-hitter to lead the Lakers to a 3-2 win over Clearfield Friday.

ARLENE WILLIAMS, Fremont: Helped the Silver Wolves climb to 7-0 in Region 1 by smacking a 3-run homer in 9-6 decision over Roy Friday.

BROOKE BAKER, West Jordan: Whiffed 13 Cougars - throwing a three-hitter - as Jaguars clipped Kearns 8-1 Friday.

MARIANNE GRAF, Snow Canyon: Collected five RBI and had three hits as Warriors pasted Pine View 20-1 Friday. Pitcher Alana Hovey tossed a one-hitter.

JAMIE HADFIELD, Lehi: Three hits produced three RBI in 16-2 win over Park City Friday.

DANA PEACOCK, Manti: Homered, tripled and doubled in game one and added a pair of doubles in the nightcap as the Templars toppled North Summit twice Friday.

SHARO BAYLES, San Juan: Struck out nine North Sevier batters, had three hits and two RBI as Broncos prevailed 15-2 Wednesday. Teammate Jackie Thorton added a triple and a home run to the winning effort.

MELISSA BAILEY, Grand: Her 3-run homer and 2-run triple lifted the Red Devils to a 15-0 win over Monticello Wednesday. Arielle Beck tossed a one-hitter striking out eight.

KATIE LEWIS, Bingham: Pitcher allowed just three hits in 4-0 win over West Jordan Tuesday.

KARA ORENO, Hunter: Smacked a 3-run homer in the bottom of the last inning as the Wolverines posted a 5-4 win over Taylorsville Tuesday.

SHERRIE HOLMES, Highland: Allowed just one hit to power the Rams to a 10-0 win over Davis Tuesday.

LISA HASHIMOTO, Box Elder: Doubled, tripled and threw three shutout innings in the Bees' 14-0 whipping of Ogden Tuesday.

LORI MACFARLANE, Bear River: Led 25-8 winning effort over Ben Lomond Tuesday by recording four doubles. Teammate Tammy Jensen added a homer and a double for the Bears.

KELLEY RUSSELL, Tooele: Drove in three runs as the Buffaloes stopped Granite 7-2 Tuesday.

SUNNY SMITH, Pleasant Grove: Catcher threw two baserunners out as Vikings edged Provo 3-1 Tuesday.

ASHLEY RENCHER, Timpview: Had two doubles including the game-winner in Thunderbirds' 5-3 triumph over Payson Tuesday.
