HOPE FOR ELDERLY BENEFIT PLANNED

The sixth annual Hope for the Elderly benefit, sponsored by Friends of St. Joseph Villa, will be Tuesday, May 16, in Little America Hotel.

A social hour and silent auction are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7. Proceeds will go to the charity care fund, which provides financial assistance to nursing-home residents who cannot afford the total cost of their care. The nursing home is a not-for-profit long-term care facility that has provided care for older people since 1947 in the Salt Lake area. Increasing costs of care, low reimbursement rates from government programs and private in-sur-ance have made it difficult for many elderly people and their families, officials say.

Joseph Lennox Federal, former bishop of the Salt Lake Catholic Diocese, will be honored at the dinner for "inspirational" service; Virginia Leahy, for volunteer service; and former Utah first lady Norma Matheson, for advocacy for the elderly.

Tickets are $45 per person. A "sponsor table" is $600 and includes recognition at the banquet. Call Ginger Moulton or Lori Peterson, 487-755, for more information.
