REAL BULLETS, REAL MISSILES AT GUARD TRAINING SESSION

These guys aren't just playing army.

The Utah Army National Guard's 211th Aviation Group will shoot real bullets and real missiles from real helicopter-mounted guns at its annual training session, starting this weekend at Dugway Proving Ground.About 245 soldiers from the group's first battalion will shoot rounds from 30 mm guns and laser-guided Hellfire antitank missiles, mounted on 12 Apache attack helicopters. The weekend warriors will also pilot nine observation helicopters and two Blackhawk transport helicopters on the Dugway ranges.

In addition, the battalion will conduct a two-day deep-penetration offensive by flying to the southern Utah desert, establishing an assembly area.

The 211th Aviation Group was one of the first Apache helicopter units in the country to be certified combat-ready - the training is designed to ensure that it remains so.
