A SECOND'S DELAY COSTS $13.7 MILLION

A British woman missed out on a National Lottery jackpot of 8.5 million pounds ($13.7 million) because her boyfriend processed her ticket just one second after the deadline, The Sun newspaper reported.

Susan Evans lost out on the jackpot when boyfriend Andrew Mitchell processed the ticket at a gas station exactly at the 7:30 p.m. deadline Saturday and the lottery machine shut down automatically before her numbers were printed out. Mitchell got stuck behind another last-minute customer who bought his ticket just in time.Evans' ticket was the only one in Britain to have the six winning numbers of last Saturday's draw.

"I feel a right fool," Mitchell told The Sun.
