BARCELONA, Spain - Top-seeded Arantxa Sanchez Vicario beat Spanish compatriot Maria Angeles Montolio 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to advance to the third round of the Ford Open.
Koivu leads Finland
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Saku Koivu, who signed a three-year contract with Montreal last week for a reported $7.5 million, had a goal and an assist as Finland beat Norway 5-2 in the World Hockey Championships.
Finland joined the Czech Republic, which beat Austria 5-2, and the United States with four points atop Pool B. In Pool A, Russia beat France 3-1 to improve to 3-0.
Pirates' sale back on
PITTSBURGH - Swayed by Mayor Tom Murphy's multimillion-dollar inducement, the Pittsburgh Pirates' owners made a startling about-face and will try to sell the team to John Rigas by early May.
Murphy, who conducted the search for a new owner last fall, changed the 10 owners' minds by promising an additional $7 million to $8 million in funding.
Rigas has offered $85.15 million for the team, $25.15 million in cash and $60 million in debt assumption. He also agreed to assume a $20 million city-backed loan and has guaranteed to cover up to $13 million in losses this season.
Coleman signs contract
HOMESTEAD, Fla. - On the last day of the free agent training camp, Vince Coleman agreed to a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals. Coleman, 33, who will earn $250,000 if he makes the club, had a deal for $3 million last year when he hit .240 with 50 steals for the Royals.
Bullets win tiebreaker
NEW YORK - The Washington Bullets, who tied Minnesota for the NBA's second-worst record at 21-61, won a draw for chances in the draft lottery.
The Bullets will have 183 chances out of 1,000 of winning the lottery and the right to select first. The Timberwolves will have 182 chances.
The lottery will be held May 21 in Secaucus, N.J., and the draft June 28 in Toronto.
Tyson faces civil suit
NEWARK, N.J. - Mike Tyson, recently released from prison after serving three years on a rape conviction, faces a civil suit originally filed in 1990.
A June 12 trial date has been set in Newark for the suit filed in Superior Court by Phyliss Polaner, a former publicist for Tyson's ex-wife, Robin Givens. The original suit charged that Tyson assaulted and threatened to kill Polaner in 1988 and named Tyson, Givens, and Givens' mother, Ruth Roper.
Bartolami wins prologue
WILMINGTON, Del. - Italy's Gianluca Bartolami, the World Cup champion who is competing in the United States for the first time, won the prologue in the Tour DuPont. Bartolami, who rides for Mapei-GB, completed 2.98 miles in 6 minutes, 5.749 seconds to the take leader's jersey for today's 68-mile first stage from Dover to Wilmington.
Colts sign Erickson
INDIANAPOLIS - Quarterback Craig Erickson agreed to a three-year contract with Indianapolis for $6 million, completing Saturday's trade with Tampa Bay for the Colts' first-round pick in 1996.
Jurassic tourney planned
OGDEN - The Ogden Raptors baseball team, Fox 13 and Wolf Creek Golf Resort will host the first Jurassic Classic golf tournament Wedneday, June 7, 9 a.m. at Wolf Creek Resort. Fox 13 sports anchor Mike Runge and Raptor president Dave Baggott will be co-hosts. Proceeds go toward funding and construction of Ogden City's planned baseball/multi-use facility stadium to be used by the Raptors.

The Raptors' Pioneer League season begins June 17 with the home opener June 21.
Tebbs signs with 'Cats
Former Bingham High all-stater Quynn Tebbs, who is currently serving an LDS mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recently signed a letter of intent with the University of Arizona.
Tebbs led the Miners to a second-place finish in the 1994 5A state tournament by averaging 17 points and shooting 61 percent from the field. His older brother, Justyn, currently plays for Weber State.
