OGDEN ALUMNAE CHAPTER TO HOST CONFERENCE

Seven years after the state's first black sorority formed, the Ogden chapter will host the 40th biennial Farwest Regional Conference in Salt Lake City and Ogden this summer.

The Ogden Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. was chartered in 1988. The Farwest Regional Conference will be held June 28 to July 2 and is made up of chapters in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Japan, Oregon, Republic of Korea, Utah and Washington.The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. It is a private, nonprofit public-service organization composed of about 200,000 college-educated women, mostly of African-American descent.

Its membership provides an array of community services concerned with educational and eco-nom-ic development. The sorority also entered into a partnership with the NAACP to increase the number of registered voters.

The Ogden chapter provides annual scholarships to students of high academic achievement and provides mentoring and tutorial services to Ogden's Project Success.
