LINCOLN INSTITUTE AWARDS $50,000 PRIZE TO WRITER

"The Presidency of Abraham Lincoln," by Phillip Shaw Paludan, which examines Lincoln's ability to achieve seemingly divergent goals - saving the Union and freeing slaves - has won the 1995 Lincoln Prize.

The $50,000 prize, which awards excellence in Civil War studies, was presented by the Lincoln and Soldiers Institute at Gettysburg College.
